It&#8217;s less about willpower than about routine and unburdening the mind.<\/p><h2>Why the mind gets loud at night<\/h2><p>By day we&#8217;re distracted. In the evening, when it grows quiet, the open loops report in. The brain tries to hold on to the unfinished so it isn&#8217;t forgotten. On paper, the mind no longer has to hold it.<\/li><li><strong>A fixed wake-up time:<\/strong> more important than bedtime, it steadies your rhythm.<\/li><li><strong>A screen buffer:<\/strong> the last half hour without phone or work, dimmed light is better.<\/li><li><strong>Slow exhaling:<\/strong> calms the nervous system (see 4-7-8 breathing).<\/li><\/ul><\/div><h2>The most important rule: don&#8217;t fight awake in bed<\/h2><p>If you&#8217;re not asleep after about 20 minutes, get up briefly, go to another room, do something calm in low light, and only return when you grow tired. So the brain learns: bed means sleep.<\/p><h2>How to begin<\/h2><p>Today, try the thought parking lot and the <a href=\"\/en\/ruhe-stress\/\">4-7-8 breathing<\/a> from the exercises.
