Every notification pulls you out, and the way back into concentration takes longer than you think. Focus today is often a question of environment. Whoever clears away distraction beforehand needn’t fight it in the moment.
The hidden cost of switching
After each interruption a remnant of the old task stays in your head, you’re not fully back at once. Many small interruptions thus cost more than their length suggests.
Set up a focus block
- One thing: only one task per block.
- Remove distractions first: phone silent in another room, unnecessary tabs closed.
- Time frame: a timer of about 25 minutes, then a real break.
- Park your thoughts: jot down any ideas that come up.
Breaks belong to it
Focus is not a permanent state. Short, real breaks (stand up, window, water) keep concentration across the day.
How to begin
Today, plan a single 25-minute focus block for your most important task. Guide: Focus block in the exercises.
